FOLLOWING THE SUN & SAND!!!!

We hope this blog finds you happy and healthy! It has been a while (we know five months) since our last blog post. At that point in time, we were in Gloucester Va. at Chesapeake Bay RV resort. Since then, we have traveled 1,392 miles, stayed at 16 RV parks, spent two months at the beach, spent time with old friends and met new friends along the way, all while maintaining social distance and adhering to COVID safe protocols.

On our journey from Virginia to our winter destination of Florida, we had the opportunity to spend time at some wonderful beach locations. Our first stop was Emerald Isle, where we spent a week at Whispering Pines, a Thousand Trails Encore Campground. From there we spent a month at Barefoot RV Resort in North Myrtle Beach, which quickly became one of our favorite destinations. So much so, that we have already booked a month there this year!

Barefoot RV park is located a half mile from the beach and a mile from Barefoot landing with its many wonderful restaurants and shops. Even a few awesome Putt – Putt courses are accessible by golf cart. We rented a golf cart for the month we spent there and not only do we recommend the park, but we strongly recommend renting a golf

Our next stop was The Oaks at South Point in Yemassee, South Carolina. We enjoyed this park a great deal. Although due to COVID concerns, we could not fully utilize its outstanding location. We did not venture into Savannah, which is only 50 miles from the park. However, we spent some time on Hilton Head Island. From the Oaks, we made our way to Brunswick, Georgia, where we stayed at an RV park which provided easy access to both Jekyll Island and St. Simons Island! We also found an outdoor beach side restaurant that provided us with the crab legs we had been searching for!

We continued south to Carrabelle RV Resort in Carrabelle, Florida. Our campsite was an easy 100-yard walk to a quiet, dog – friendly beach. While in Carabelle, we visited St. George Island, which was only twenty miles away. The area is known as the forgotten coast and is indeed a quiet area. Many mornings, as I walked along the deserted beach, I felt like Tom Hanks in the movie Castaway. Carabelle is an old fishing town. It is also a big boating town that serves as a stopover for many boaters who need to cross the gulf. This worked out well for us, as boater friends of ours that are doing the Great Loop in their Nordhavn Trawler, happened to be spending a night in Carabelle while we were there. We were able to share travel stories over a pizza with them before they continued their amazing journey!

Carrabelle marked the end of our beach time for a while. Upon leaving Carrabelle, we made our way to Central Florida, which is where we have remained. We have been utilizing our Thousand Trails membership to the fullest, engaging in the Florida Shuffle, in order to winter for free! For those of you wondering what the Florida Shuffle is, we will answer that in our next blog, in which we discuss the various Thousand Trails memberships, including the newest offering the “Adventue”upgrade… And yes, we will share with you our decision to upgrade or not!

Until next time…
